What is cumul.us?
cumul.us is a place to get simple, accurate, and useful weather information.

What makes it simple and accurate is that it collects weather forecasts from several sources and combines them together to give you a more accurate average, using the idea of the "wisdom of crowds". In short, cumul.us is the "wisdom of clouds". Not only is there data from meteorological sources, but people can make predictions themselves.

What makes it useful is that it gives you the information you really use the weather for every day, like figuring out what you should wear. Using the aggregated weather data (and other people submitting what they are wearing) it will suggest what you should wear.

What is the wisdom of crowds?
If you haven't read the book, you can read about it at Wikipedia. The idea is that the aggregation of information in groups results in decisions that are often better than could have been made by any single member of the group.

cumul.us is built under the premise that aggregating as many available forecasts as possible (both from experts and not) will result in a more accurate forecast, and that the aggregation will be a new source in itself.

Do you have anywhere else where you're blabbering on incessantly?
Why yes, there is a blog, at blog.cumul.us. We are looking forward to telling you about new features, asking questions, getting suggestions and comments, and posting pictures of cats.

Why does it switch to the next day's information at midnight?
cumul.us considers a "day" to be from 6am to 6pm (and a "night" from 6pm-6am) in any prticular location, but all of the weather data sources consider 12am to be a new day, so because of that you can't submit any more predictions for the night after midnight. If any user predictions were made for that night you will be able to see the weather from the various data sources, but by default it is not saved.

What is my user rating?
When you make a prediction, cumul.us will go to the various available weather data sources and save what it was really like for that particular place and time, and then give you a score for that prediction based on how accurate your guess was for the conditions and/or temperature. All of those individual prediction scores make up your user rating.

Where is all this data coming from?
cumul.us is made possible by the openly available data and APIs from Geonames, AccuWeather, Weather Underground (via Google), National Weather Service, WeatherBug and The Weather Channel, with many more weather data sources to come.

What is ShopStyle?
cumul.us is not affiliated with ShopStyle in any way, besides using their handy blog widget tool to search and display clothing choices. cumul.us receives no money or affiliate fees from ShopStyle. Frankly, we just use their widget because we feel it gives you the best experience. It's minimal, useful, and shows a nice representation of the clothing choices which you can also browse through. If you find some cool clothes out of the deal, great!
